Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found many other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior official stated the vandalism made him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
